Information about the evening sea turtle observation session

This summer night-only tour will make your stay on Yakushima even more special.
You will witness the mystical cycle of life up close at Nagata Beach, known as one of Japan's leading sea turtle nesting grounds.

This tour is organized by the Yakushima Town Ecotourism Promotion Council's Sea Turtle Protection and Utilization Expert Committee, and you will participate in an observation session conducted by the Nagata Sea Turtle Liaison Council, which has been working on sea turtle conservation for many years. An experienced local guide will carefully explain the ecology of sea turtles and proper etiquette for observation, while you quietly observe together the precious moments from when the mother turtle comes ashore, lays her eggs, and returns to the sea.
While waiting for the sea turtles to come ashore and after the observation session, you can also enjoy the starry sky unique to Yakushima, where there are few lights around.

*Please note that as we are dealing with nature, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to see the sea turtles coming ashore or laying eggs.

The Nagata Sea Turtle Liaison Council
is an organization formed by residents of the Nagata district. Initially established to protect the peaceful nesting environment of sea turtles in response to the increase in tourists, it currently serves as a member of the Sea Turtle Conservation and Utilization Expert Subcommittee, cooperating with various organizations to manage sea turtle observation events.

The tour guides
are local guides from "Nobuyak Yakushima," a company rooted in the Nagata settlement, located near Nagata Beach where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. These experienced professionals, who have been working with Yakushima's nature as a specialist sea kayaking and eco-tour shop since 2002, will deliver a memorable night experience while prioritizing safety.
