Information about the evening sea turtle observation session

This summer evening tour will make your stay on Yakushima even more special.
Observe the mysterious life cycle up close at Nagata Beach, known as one of Japan's leading sea turtle nesting sites.

This tour is organized by the Yakushima Town Ecotourism Promotion Council's Sea Turtle Protection and Use Specialist Committee and conducted by the Nagata Sea Turtle Liaison Council, a long-standing organization dedicated to sea turtle conservation. Your experienced local guide will carefully explain the ecology of sea turtles and proper etiquette while quietly observing the precious sights of mother turtles, from their arrival on shore to laying eggs and their return to the sea.
While waiting for the turtles to come ashore or after the observation, you can enjoy the starry sky, unique to Yakushima, where there are few lights around.

*Please note that due to the nature of the turtles, it is not always possible to see the sea turtles coming ashore or laying eggs.

Nagata Sea Turtle Liaison Council
This is an organization formed by residents of the Nagata area. They began their activities to protect the tranquil nesting environment of sea turtles due to the increase in tourists, and currently, as a member of the Sea Turtle Protection and Use Specialist Committee, they cooperate with various organizations to run sea turtle observation events.

Your tour guide
will be a local guide from Nobuyak Yakushima, a company based in Nagata village near Nagata Beach, where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. Nobuyak has been working in the natural environment of Yakushima since 2002 as a specialist sea kayaking and ecotour shop, and these experienced professionals will ensure you have a memorable nighttime experience while taking safety into consideration.
