When you think of Yakushima, many people may think of words such as "Jomon Cedar," "World Natural Heritage Site," and "Ocean Alps." Approximately 90% of Yakushima's area is covered by mountains, and it is an island blessed with rich greenery. Therefore, Yakushima = mountain! forest! Yakusugi! This may seem like a strong image, but in reality, its charm is not limited to its lush mountains and forests. Yakushima is packed with many other wonderful attractions.
Nice to meet you, I’m Azusa Ito!
My name is Azusa and I am originally from Shizuoka Prefecture and have been living in Yakushima for 7 years. The first time I visited Yakushima was when I was a second year university student. At the invitation of a friend, I landed on Yakushima without knowing anything about it, and was completely captivated by the charm of Yakushima's nature and people, so I moved to Yakushima in 2018 at the age of 24.
After moving here, I wanted to convey the charms of Yakushima to as many people as possible, so I use Instagram as ``#Yakushima Self-Tourism Ambassador'' to share the spots and experiences that I heartily recommend.

The charm of Yakushima is not limited to famous spots such as "Jomon Cedar" and "World Natural Heritage". There are many scenic spots, including beautiful sandy beaches known as nesting grounds for sea turtles, crystal clear rivers, and Okawa Falls, which was selected as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. Additionally, the people of Yakushima are warm, easy-going, and above all, full of hospitality.
I feel that the water, food, and interaction with the island's people make Yakushima an even more special place.
I am fascinated by Yakushima and will show you around!
